Official group photograph of flying personnel of No. 133 (Eagle) Squadron. Biggin Hill, June 1942. Re-equipped with Spitfire Mk. V in February 1942, the squadron was initially employed with convoy escort night interception duties with little contact with the enemy. This was changed overnight after the unit’s transfer to 11 Group and Biggin Hill in May 1942, almost exactly a month before this photo was taken. During its three months’ stay at Biggin Hill, the unit flew almost daily missions over the Channel seeing some heavy combat. [133 Squadron]
