• Army bomb experts were called out after a “Second World War Spitfire mortar shell” was found at a household tip in Staffordshire. Unfortunately, the news doesn’t say more exactly what piece of ammunition has been found, or how its connection with the Spitfire is known. But then perhaps it’s too much of a requirement. • Bentley Priory plans submitted – the plans to turn the 18th Century RAF Bentley Priory, the former Fighter Command headquarters, to residential facility, have been submitted by the developers. • Canadian Spitfire pilot Ian Maclennan, DFM makes a moving return to former battleground – Malta. [Canada NewsWire]
• Scottish Spitfire pilot Russell Lyon killed in France during World War II, whose body was recently found, is to be honoured with a memorial in Larmor-Plage, Brittany. [Glasgow Daily Record]
