I have been passionate about aviation for as long as l can remember. Here is the jewel in the crown of my interest – the 1/3 scale model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk. IX.
The airframe has been built of wood and covered in aviation-grade aluminium plate, with exact reproduction of skin panels, structure and internal parts.
The cockpit is complete in every detail, constructed using original drawings. Fully adjustable seat, illuminated gun sight and so on. The rear view mirror is complete with – just that, a mirror.
The undercarriage is reproduced per as original with up and down locks.
The Spitfire model has been a major undertaking. It took several years to complete it to the stage shown in the photos, but its development will continue. I have several ideas. Completing the armament compartments with with ammunition boxes, belts and rounds that could be viewed via opening service panels is one possible development. Another – rather more time-consuming – would be a working V12 Merlin or Griffon replica, constructed as per the original and fitted to the engine frames. The scale Griffon would have 574 cm3 capacity…
In the meantime, my aim is to promote my scale replica as widely as possible with a view to a limited production. Variations may include different marks, from Mk. VIII with retracting tail wheel up to the Mk. XIV with Griffon nose, enlarged radiators and numerous other changes.
Enjoy. Further information can be obtained from my site, jeanpierre.cousinet.free.fr
