In April last year JAYS Model Kits of New Zealand acquired the moulds and machine tools from Ventura Models. Ventura was particularly well-known for their excessive line of Spitfire/Seafire kits in 1/72 scale, featuring such unique marks of this aircraft as the Seafire Mk. XV or Spitfire Mk. 22. The kits were not only unique, they were accurate – perhaps more so than many mainstream Spitfire offerings in this scale. At the same time be warned, these are limited-run kits, so modelling skills are required when building them. Most kits come with clear vacuum-formed canopies (two provided) and metal accessory parts. For an example of the Ventura kit, see the previously posted Magnus Fridsell’s model of the Spitfire PR Mk. XI.
The good news is that JAYS Models have chosen to re-release the Spitfire range and are now selling these kits through their brand. Currently there are 10 kits from the range available for purchase. Plans for the nearest future include a few more Spitfires over the coming months, including Spitfire Mk.XIX ‘The Last’ PS888, produced in collaboration with the members of 81 Squadron Association.
