JAYS Model Kits advised us about a new product added to their store – a new decal sheet entitled Hornchurch vs. Luftwaffe – Battle of Britain 70th Anniversary.

This strictly limited print decal sheet was produced by the organisers of the recent UK model show Southern Expo 2010 and celebrates the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. The sheet features Spitfire Mk.I’s which flew from RAF Hornchurch as well as the Bf-109E and a Heinkel He-111 against which some of them fought. The decal sheet also comes with detailed paint and decal guides for each aircraft including four schemes for the aircraft flown by the famous New Zealand pilot Al Deere.

Proceeds from the sale of the decal sheet at the show helped raise money for a local charity, the St Francis Hospice.

The decals are available in 1:72nd and 1:48th scale and can be ordered online from Jays Models.

I bought the 1/72 sheet at Southern Expo, and it is excellent. It includes enough codes and serials to make all four of Al Deere’s Spits, plus three others, including those of Sailor Malan and Brian Carbury.

The colour instructions are very informative, and the decals (printed by Microscale) are thin, clear and look very good.

I plan to use some later this year, in a Battle of Britain kit group build on Britmodeller.
