Anatomy of the Spitfire Cockpit

A wealth of miscellaneous controls and plumbing positioned at the starboard cockpit wall just above the seat. The seat itself has been removed for the photo; if mounted, its rear backing would be inline with the round black oxygen valve in the upper right corner.

The item marked “DANGER” In the upper left corner is the set of IFF (identification Friend or Foe) switches. These were accessible only by removing the warning plate. To the right is the black pressure bottle for emergency undercarriage retraction, the emergency mode being activated by the red lever labelled “EMERGENCY ONLY”.

Below, mounted to the fuselage frame is the pressure pump for windscreen de-icing. The cock opening the actual flow of the liquid to spray nozzles is visible to the left.
