Apart from writing and researching for my Battle of Britain series, I keep working with many step-by-step improvements of the site.
Part of this work is renaming my post-blog of the events of 1940 to “Stories of the Battle of Britain“.
I feel that this title conveys what I’m trying to achieve with the series: a set of individual stories which, each based on a local event and scenery somewhere in Britain or France of 1940, together illustrate the larger story of one of the turning points of the 20th century.
I must admit that planning for this project I had been anxious about finding enough new things to be said about the Battle to keep the series interesting. Today I think I know where I would like to story to go; I’ll let my latest additions: The Tomato Raid and Constant-speed Propellers to serve as examples. My confidence is growing!
Other important addition throughout the site is a footnote to each article entitled “Visitors who enjoyed this article also read..”. The title says it all, I can only add that with over 600 articles in our database, this function ensures that for every article you read, you will probably find other closely related reading. Enjoy!
Thirdly, I’m experimenting with placement of ads, performing a so-called ABCD testing to determine how ad space should distributed across the various pages. Testing will continue during the summer and may result in further layout adjustments.
Stay tuned.
