Our contributor Barry Gillingwater pointed me to a notable restoration project, located just 20 minutes down the road from him at Ardmore in New Zealand.  A pair of de Havilland Mosquitoes are being restored to flying condition.  What makes this project entirely unique on today’s restoration scene is not only the fact that there are no airworthy Mosquitoes today,  but also the sheer amount  of woodworking required! Contrary to most of its contemporaries, the Mosquito was built almost entirely of wood.

It is now about 18 years since the start of this project, and the first Mosquito, almost completed,is scheduled to fly in February 2011.
