Tolga Ulgur sent us these pictures of his brilliantly finished Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire Mk. IXC. The painting, the sense of detail and the weathering do justice to this fantastic kit.

According to Tolga, this is the finest model aircraft kit ever produced by a manufacturer, at any time. Level of detail, fit and engineering is excellent throughout.

The model displays theĀ markings of EJ-C, serial PT396 flown by W/Cdr Jack Charles RCAF, OC Tangmere Wing in August 1944.

Brilliant effort Tolga, another very well weathered model. Have a look at the modelling site on the forum pages, John has built another magnificent Tamiya MkIX, flown by a Rhodesian pilot Danny Kay. I will just have to start on mine soon! Jack Charles was a fascinating character. I understand he sadly had some sort of mental breakdown after the war? Brilliant war record however.

This to correct my error, his aircraft was named Danny Kay, the pilot was Johnny Plagis, a Rhodesian of Greek descent/heritage.

my only comment – i’m surprised that Tamiya didn’t supply rubber tires for the kit. i’m wondering if there are aftermarket scale rtubber tires to retrofit to the model?

The tyres in the kit are rubber or is that what you meant?

For the best aftermarket resin have a look at Roy Sutherlands Barracuda range at http://barracudacals.com/products.php?cat=13
