Spitfire Mk. XIX was designed from the outset as high altitude photo-reconnaissance aircraft with a pressurised cockpit. The pressurised canopy, the first to be employed on a PR Spitfire, was similar in outline to the non-pressurised variants, but as we will see, the two canopies were different in almost every other respect.

Note the lack of pilot’s entry door at the port side of the cockpit, a recognition feature of a pressurised Spitfire.
