This is a collection of images shows some of the Spitfires that attended the Spitfire 60th Anniversary Air Show of 2-3 May 1998 at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford. The show commemorated the 60th anniversary of the introduction of the Spitfire into RAF squadron service, an event which originally took place at Duxford on 4 August 1938. The show itself made history by putting up a display of no less than sixteen (!) Spitfires in the air for simultaneous flypast. They flew in diamond formation (somewhat broken at the moment when the pictures were taken).
